Light Up a Life 2021

St Margaret’s Hospice is inviting people across Somerset to come together and be part of this year’s Light up a Life campaign.

Traditionally, Light up a Life is the time when the hospice invites the local community to gather in churches across the county for a simple service of remembrance. But, after more people being able to access the service last year when they were forced to stream it, instead the hospice has now decided to keep the virtual format for 2021.

As well as the service in December, the hospice is inviting families across Somerset to share the names of their loved ones in remembrance and celebration.

The St Margaret’s website is home to a virtual night sky where members of the community can dedicate a star in memory of a loved one and donate to the hospice.

There will also be a special Light Up a Life service which will be broadcast from the Bishop’s Chapel at the Bishop’s Palace in Wells on Sunday, December 12th at 4.00pm, available to watch via the hospice’s website.

Limbo (certificate 12A)

Omar is a promising young musician.
Separated from his Syrian family, he is stuck on a remote Scottish island awaiting the fate of his asylum request.
Limbo is a wry and poignant observation of the refugee experience, set on a fictional remote Scottish island where a group of new arrivals await the results of their asylum claims.
It centers on Omar (Amir El-Masry), a young Syrian musician who is burdened by his grandfather's oud, the king of Arabic music instruments, which he has carried all the way from his homeland.

Sherborne Castle Country Fair

Sherborne Castle Country Fair is a one-day rural event held in the grounds of Sherborne Castle.  Find out more by visiting the website.

Traditionally held on the last Bank Holiday Monday in May, for 2022 only the Fair is moving "back" a day to the Sunday, 29th May.  This is because the Bank Holiday is moving to Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd June in order to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
