Allan is preparing for his 100th birthday celebration but escapes from his old peoples home at the last moment. . He quickly gets involved in an adventure involving drug-money, sought by both police and criminals. During this escapade, we discover Allan's remarkable life story in flashback. It turns out this shambling old Swede was a psychiatric inmate, mine demolition expert, Spanish Civil War hero, rocket scientist and spy. At one point or another, he was a saviour to Franco, Truman and Stalin.

The film adaptation of the hugely successful novel. A mix of high comedy and serious themes. Will go well with older audiences who want a reaffirmation of their worth!
