Sat 13 April - Mon 06 MayCerne Giant Festival

The CERNE GIANT FESTIVAL was born out of our vibrant May Day tradition, when the Morris Dancers and villagers gather at dawn on the Trendle, the original  site of the village Maypole at the top of the Cerne Giant. Here we salute the sunrise and celebrate the start of summer with a barrel of Beltane Beer.

This is the third year of the Festival, which has now extended to about 3 weeks.  With a theme of ‘Celebrating Humanity in the Landscape’, there will be a huge variety of events including workshops, talks, and walks so that there is something for everyone to explore their own connection with landscape of Dorset and what it means to them.

Any profits from the Festival will go towards maintaining the fabric and work of the churches in the participating villages.

Opera Holloway: La Boheme

In a seaside town on the south coast in England, four young men are living the youthful dream, yearning for love and not working too hard. Their flat is run down, they're content to live on take-aways, they complain when they run out of money and have perfected the art of dodging the landlord. Their lives are filled with trips to the pub, late night dancing and girls. Until Mimi knocks on the door. Rodolfo opens it, eyes and hands meet and a passionate affair begins. Follow the impoverished lovers as their relationship unfurls, from it’s joyous beginnings to the bitter end on a chilly promenade. This contemporary new production of Puccini’s thrilling, passionate love story captures the raw, consuming power of young love, performed in Opera Holloway's intimate and immediate style. Touring Dorset with Artsreach, the counties touring arts charity.
