Bruton Dub Club

Aprils' Bruton Dub Club live band are the “impossible not to dance to..”  One Style MDV, a London Reggae band who have been playing together for 30 years.  Hailed by their peers they have shared the stage with Aswad, Gregory Isaccs, Misty In Roots, Asian Dub Foundation, Maxi Priest, The Mad Professor. As well as 2 UK tours supporting Joe Strummer and The Latino Rockabilly War, and concerts with indie bands like Ffa Coffi Pawb, Yr Anhrefn, The La’s, The Blaggers and The Levellers.

One Style MDV have always maintained their aim to play live music which is what they have enjoyed the most.  Their unconventional simple line up of bass, guitar and drum has surprised audiences due to their overall sound, the dynamics they create and the movement within their music which has always set them apart from the rest.  They have always been described as "Tight" which is
their trademark.  Joining them on vocals we have Gaven of Korus fame.

The bands objective has always been to ensure that their lyrics had meaning which are uplifting or encourages the listener to think about themselves and the world we live in to compliment the music.  This added strength to the music is what has connected them to diverse communities and audiences they represent.  Incorporated with their individual personal influences that range from classic reggae, roots and culture, soul, blues, jazz, ska, rock, Hip Hop etc, its difficult to pigeon hole the band or put them in a single category although they have been compared to Steel Pulse, Sly and Robbie, The Wailers, Burning Spear and even The Police. They have had 5 releases to date, available on iTunes.
Hosted by Bruton Dub Club regular MC’s Clapper Priest and MC Mvp and with Bristols' Roots Inspiration Sound on the decks expect some heartical roots!

My Old Lady (Certificate 12A)

Milborne Port Movies, in conjunction with Somerset Moviola, are showing the film "My Old Lady" (Certificate 12A)

Mathias (Kevin Kline) is a down-and-out New Yorker who travels to Paris to liquidate a huge, valuable apartment he has inherited from his estranged father.

Once there, however, he discovers a refined old woman Mathilde (Maggie Smith) living in the apartment with her daughter Chloé (Kristin Scott Thomas).

Mathias quickly learns that the apartment is a “viager” – an ancient French system for buying and selling apartments – and that he will not actually get possession of the apartment until Mathilde dies.
While working with a Parisian real-estate dealer (Dominique Pinon), to sell his contract for the apartment, Mathias discovers that Mathilde and his father were lovers for more than 50 years.

Noel Coward's 'Tonight at 8.30'
Amateur Players of Sherborne’s spring production features three plays from Noel Coward’s ten one-act play cycle titled ‘Tonight at 8.30’
The plays showcase Coward's talents as a playwright and his trademark panache for sparkling, sophisticated, witty dialogue. “There is a little something for everyone here”, says John Crabtree, director and set designer and who last spring directed ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’ as the Players part in the RSC's Open Stages project. “Themes range from high farce to doomed romance and span the full range of Coward’s writing.”
Hands Across the Sea concerns a socialite whose drawing room is a revolving door of old and new friends and thus a natural set-up for a case of mistaken identities.
In Still Life after a chance meeting of a housewife and a married physician in a railway-station buffet, they embark on an affair, subsequently immortalised on screen as Brief Encounter.
A lovingly cynical tribute to the music hall, ’Red Peppers’ features a performing couple whose onstage choreography and off-stage marriage leave something to be desired.
Tickets: £8, students £5, group bookings 10+ £7.50 available early April from Marsh’s, Cheap Street, Sherborne and The Abbey Shop, Abbey Close, Sherborne.

Selma (Certificate 12A)

Milborne Port Movies, in conjunction with Somerset Moviola, are showing the film "Selma" (Certificate 12A)

Selma is the story of a movement.

The film chronicles the tumultuous three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a
dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition.

The epic march from Selma to Montgomery culminated in President Johnson (Tom Wilkinson) signing
the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement.

Director Ava DuVernays SELMA tells the real story of how the revered leader and visionary Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo) and his brothers and sisters in the movement prompted change that
forever altered history.

The Theory of Everything (Certificate 12A)

Milborne Port Moviola, in conjunction with Somerset Moviola, are showing the film "The Theory of Everything" (Certificate 12A)

Starring Eddie Redmayne ("Les Misérables") and Felicity Jones ("The Amazing Spider-Man 2"), this is the extraordinary story of one of the world's greatest living minds, the renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, who falls deeply in love with fellow Cambridge student Jane Wilde.

Once a healthy, active young man, Hawking received an earth-shattering diagnosis at 21 years of age. With Jane fighting tirelessly by his side, Stephen embarks on his most ambitious scientific work, studying the very thing he now has precious little of - time.

Together, they defy impossible odds, breaking new ground in medicine and science, and achieving more than they could ever have dreamed.

The film is based on the memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen, by Jane Hawking, and is directed by Academy Award winner James Marsh ("Man on Wire").
