Live Thatching Weekend

Ben Collyns, member of the Somerset Master Thatchers Association, will be creating a thatched roof in the Gardner Gallery inside the Museum. The thatch, of Somerset grown combed wheat, will have a ridge of Somerset coppiced willow. 

The demonstration will complement the Museum’s unique set of thatching tools belonging to master thatcher Simon Garrett of Thornford and Ben’s creation will be left as an installation for the public to see until August. 

The event is free but any donations will be gratefully received.

Sherborne Castle Country Fair

Sherborne Castle Country Fair is a one-day rural event held in the grounds of Sherborne Castle. 

This family day-out is held to raise funds for local children’s charities & youth organisations.  It is a traditional country fair with displays & attractions, trade & craft stands & a rare and native breed animal show.  The 2016 date is Bank Holiday Monday 30th May.

Tickets on the day cost: adult £12.00, children (5-15) £4.00, family* £29.00.  Under 5's free.  *Admits 2 adults and 3 fee-paying children.

Sherborne Castle Classic and Supercars

Come to one of the biggest and most exciting car shows in the South West, and join the 8000 people that attended last year. With over 1600 vintage and spectacular cars expected, over 100 stands, great food outlets, and musical entertainment, this will be a fantastic family day out at Sherborne Castle.  

This year the chosen marque will be Rolls Royce, with wonderful cars tracing the history of the company. Separate convoys of Lamborghini and Mclaren supercars will also arrive during the day.

Messy Museum Mondays

On Monday mornings throughout August, Sherborne Museum will be open for free access to our art materials, sensory play, toys, and nursery rhymes box. We will be providing a range of activities with a weekly theme, including making coil pots, mask making, and digging for dinosaur "bones" - all inspired by our collections. Older children can also come to enjoy exploring our exhibitions and puzzling out our indoor and outdoor treasure trails.

Free admission but donations gratefully received.

Opera in Oborne Mozart’s 'Le Nozze di Figaro' & Gala Sunday Concert

After two very successful opera productions in 2014 and 2015, Oborne is delighted to be hosting another Opera Weekend;

An abridged version of The Marriage of Figaro.  The same cast of international soloists will be performing, along with a few new faces.  The singers will be accompanied by Susanna Stranders, Head of Music Staff at Garsington Opera.
